Prior to downloading SP2, I read numerous messages of the problems parties
were having. I aproached the download with some trepidation.
I have two computers. With one computer, I downloaded SP2 today using
automatic update. It worked like a charm. No problems at all. For the
other computer, I downloaded using the CD I burned from the MS IT site
yesterday. I am still having some minor problems, but I suspect it is
related to my internet security program (McAfee IS 6.0) which had problems
before. May have to re-install. This is not an SP2 problem.
In any event, I noted in some of the posts that the Microsoft people (and
others) responding implied that users that were having trouble might have
brought in on themselves by perhaps having programs that were not loaded
properly, or not having proper virus/spyware checking programs etc.
That may be the case. However, in some cases, prior downloads of programs
(either MS upgrades or separate programs) may have created corrupted files
that are the real culprits. I think it is perhaps unfair to blame practices,
or lack thereof, of users as the reason why things did not work. Sometimes,
the problem is something that could not have been prevented or overseen by
anyone, including MS.
While it is easy to blame MS, I suspect that they and the other
manufacturers of MS compatible computers and programs and working hard to get
rid of the bugs.
My two cents worth.
