Re: XP Home Edition SP2. 1/6/09 Shenan Stanley offered remedial sequence of
commands. I completed the first 3 steps but stalled out on the 4th (download
Windows UpdateAgent & save to root of C:\). 1/15/09 JS provided commands to
save downloaded UpdateAgent to root C:\ and, based on Search, that step (# 4)
seems to have been successful. 5th step calls for: Start---Run and type in
"%SystemDrive%\windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe/WUFORCE" ---but when I click ok
a window pops up stating the latter windows file that I just typed in cannot
be found.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

drop the exclamation marks, if you are using them, " "

To William Tell, I only use the quotation marks when phrasing the question
to the Discussion group. I do not use them when typing the commands into the
computer. Would might I otherwise use when submitting a command sequence as
part of the question?

Did include a space as I mentioned below to
separate the end of the filename and the /WUFORCE switch?

%SystemDrive%\windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /WUFORCE

"C:\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce

Assuming the C: is the installation drive and you have downloaded the file
to the root directory of the C drive.
Copy and paste the above command in the Run dialog box and then press okay.

or

Alternative method of reinstallation of the file:

JS, It is remarkable what a space in the right place will do. I did as you
said and ended up with a window that said Windows Update Agent is now
installed. I've now rebooted and will proceed with the remaining steps. You
all are great and I appreciate your patience and perseverance.

To PA Bear - I am short on protocol and need help in knowing how to refer to
my original thread as I seek continued assistance. Is it as simple as
clicking on something before posting an additional query?

If your query is a continuance of the original posting - simply reply to the
same conversation (just like you did here) to continue. If you tried
something suggested and/or had trouble doing something suggested and needed
clarification - it is best not to start a new post, but to continue the same
conversation. In this way - there is a connection between what has been
suggested and tried and what has not.

Think of it like this...

You start a conversation with a friend. You two talk for several minutes on
the given subject. You have to leave the room for a minute - but your
conversation is not finished. In the other room you end up in - there is
someone else there. Would it be wise to continue your thought/discussion
with this new person without explaining the context?

If using your newsreader - just go back to the conversation you started on
the 6th of January.
Google Groups has it here:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...18d3660f1485fa

The posts you have created/responded to are archived in Google Groups:
http://groups.google.com/groups/prof...bwuHJvNJuqEiZQ

Hope that helps!
