Adam, I have had the exact same problem. Other solutions (very few
that I found on the internet did not work. Like you I tried all othe
versions of Reader and the only one I can run is 6.0. I was alread
using 8.1 when this happened to me. It started when a window popped u
asking me which program to use to open this type of file. I thought i
was a readme file or something like that and Adobe was at the top of th
list (starts with A) and already selected (1st choice) nothing opene
but half of the icons on my desktop changed to Adobe Reader. Adob
Reader had become the exe file for half my programs which of course i
can't run. I tried system restore and that did not work. Related or no
I don't know, but I have used it before and it worked then. While usin
6.0 works for now, it is not the solution. I think Adobe is a victi
here like us. I think it's a virus that Norton didn't catch. I woul
love to know if there is any NEW info on this problem. I am reall
surprised it isn't more widespread. I think my computer is stil
infected and I want it GONE
