But are you using Hotmail through an email client? If you are doing it
through your web browser, it sounds more like a connection issue or the
service is blocking attachments it finds suspicious.

FireFox?

Norton is the problem. It must be uninstalled, disabling e-mail scanning is not
enough.

First uninstall using Control Panel (Classic view) > Programs and Features and
then download and run the clean-up tool from the Norton site.

Many people will disagree with me but if you want your system to work
properly you must uninstall anything and everything Norton/Symantec.

This is based upon personal experience with many of the Norton/Symantec
products, both on Vista and XP.

Norton/Symantec, ZoneAlarm and McAfee are bloated applications and
cause more problems than they solve. Yes, I also have experience with McAfee
and ZoneAlarm, both for XP and Vista.

The problems I have experienced with these security applications are
not due to any of the settings or applications on my machines. All other
security applications work just fine.

I would suggest NOD 32 or Avast. I prefer NOD 32 and use it on all my
machines.

Have a nice day.

C.B.

I know these questions were posted a long time ago, but I just wanted to
let everyone know what worked for me. I was also having problems
downloading attachments from Hotmail and didn't want to uninstall Norton
(which has protected me sufficiently otherwise and I paid for) or switch
to a different email server. When I downloaded iTunes (I know, Windows
doesn't want to hear my usage of Apple products but hey, fix yours!)...
anyways when I downloaded iTunes it also automatically downloaded
Safari, the Apple internet browser. Just for the heck of it I tried to
go into my email through the Safari browser and tried to open an
attachment that wouldn't work through Internet Explorer and it worked!
Yay! Hopefully it will work for all of my attachments, because I have
had an extremely difficult time downloading attachments I need for
school because of Internet Explorer! THANKS APPLE!
