Downloading Live Messenger 8.5 standalone?

Hi,

Is there a link to download the Live Messenger 8.5 on it's own [or with the
other Live apps] instead of the 2.3 MB "stub" and then downloading what's
required?

I know 1 or 2 who still use dial-up [shocking!] and it would take forever to
download it directly. So, when I drop by, I can install it instead of
downloading it.

Thanks

Hi.

The path from "Program Data" on doesn't exist.

I prefer getting it from a proper source....

Thanks

Greetings,

What you posted is for 8.1, not 8.5

You can find 8.5 here:

In case anyone still needs this once you install Live Messenger once - you
can get the MSI installer from the following area in vista - and re-use again
and again -

Vista 64
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\WindowsLiveInstaller\MsiSources

Vista and I assume WinXP
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WindowsLiveInstaller\MsiSources

i am just upgrading my MSN Messenger over a few PCs and therefore looking at
a standalone.

with a bit of research, i believe 8.1 was the last standalone hosted by
microsoft.com, 8.5 is now integrated into the 2MB Windows Live Installer,
which then fetch your selected component over the internet during install. i
think this is stupid for not having a standalone, i am sure they have their
arguments.

later i found something even better, Pure Messenger. it's a patch to remove
the Messenger's marketing feature, which left you with a pure messenger
platform. found out more
http://pank.org/im/

what's best is they have standalone patched versions available to download
as old as version 7! one stone two birds.

sources: Wikipeidia and a various file searching sites.
