I am unable to download I use Vista HP on my Vaio, AOL and I.E.7 Firefox but
am unable to open or save 99% of all downloads.
I have cheked the internet security option and it is set to allow downloads.
I did have a mywebsearch virus but have disabled this now and the machine is
clean.
Please can anyone shed light on this very annoying problem? I cannot even
get windows updates to download!

You can try running Disk Cleanup (system tools) to clear the %TEMP% folder.

Why would you want to download major problems?

Hi,
I ran disc cleanup, also tried deleting some un used programs I have run the
scannow as well none of them have had an effect. I suspect a real conflict
somewhere in the system with Vista but it is very annoying as i cannot
download a solution as I cannot download!

You might look for policy entries in the registry, like:
HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Download!CheckExeSignatures
HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main!NoWebJITSetup
HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Download!RunInvalidSignatures
HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_RESTRICT_FILE DOWNLOAD!*
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_RESTRICT_FILE DOWNLOAD!*
HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVe rsion\Internet
Settings\Zones\3!1803

and in GPEdit.MSC :
Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Security Features\Restrict File
Download

Most of this is set at IE, Tools menu, Options, Security tab, Custom Level
button.
Some of it might just be a high security setting, and some would suggest
Malware actions.
