downloading pics

I cannot download pics on firefox anymore. When I "save Image as", and check
for the picture, I find no picture. I do not understand why. The question is

1. Is the picture not getting downloaded at all ? or
2. Is the picture downloaded but either firefox or the computer do
not recognize
it ?

Are you sure it's not downloading to a location that you're not aware of?
Do you know which folder your downloaded pictures go to?

You might try downloading a pic with a very unusual name, like
"lostphoto.jpg". Then go to the search box and search for that file name. If
you find out where that pic went, you may find the others, too.
Good luck.

Sounds like the picture is not getting downloaded at all. If the Download
Manager for Firefox did not come up then it did not download at all.

Firefox is not a Microsoft product. For best results,
use Microsoft Internet Explorer.

What folder do you have set as your download default?
Tools - options- Main - downloads

As I said,I right click and the dialog box comes up. I click " save image
as", another dialog box then comes up and gives me a chance to put the
picture anywhere I want to, which I do. Then,as I previously stated I check
for the picture to see If it safely got there and , now, I am unable to find
the picture. That is my problem. I don't use Internet Explorer because I have
to keep finding the folder I want for each picture I download . On Firefox ,
once you put an image in a folder that folder keeps coming up until you
change it.

Actually, IE works the way you describe... windows pops up, ask where to
store, etc. and uses the same location by default next time.

I use FF, and set my downloads to go into the same folder every time, C:\DL.

The reason I asked where you are trying to save them, is due to the
virtualstore.
If you are trying to save to one of the junction points, like "My
Downloads", "My Documents", "My Pictures", etc., then Vista will save them
elsewhere.

You might try looking in
C:\Users\(youraccount)\Documents
C:\Users\(youraccount)\Downloads
C:\Users\(youraccount)\Pictures
C:\Users\(youraccount)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore
to see if the images are in there somewhere.
\AppData is normally hidden.

I've read all the other replies to your post, and all of them have
merit. I have an alternative solution, which will work for both Internet
Explorer 7 AND Firefox (although I must admit, on Vista, I find IE7 to
be far better than Firefox - and I used FF myself on XP since about
version 1.2)

Instead of right-clicking on the image and then saving it directly (and
losing the folder where you saved it to), open an Explorer window at the
folder where you want to save your pictures. Then drag-and-drop the
picture from IE or FF onto the folder, and voila! It gets copied from
the cache to that folder. On IE7, though, each time you do this, you
must click a "Do you want to move or copy files from this zone?" prompt
(still less clicking is involved than right-click, save as, find folder,
click save) and a number such as [1] or [2] will be appended to the end
of the filename.

One drawback - if the picture you are trying to save is part of a link,
then the drag-and-drop will create a shortcut to the link instead of
copying the picture.

Another advantage of doing this is that you can save pictures where the
website author has disabled the right-click context menu.
