downloading updates automatically

i can't seem to download windows updates.my computer says it is downloading
updates but there is no data downloading. i try to stop and restart the
download but nothing works.it almost seems like it can't connect to the
updates data base. my internet connection is fine so i;m lost as to what to
do. someone please help
