Downloading xp service pack 2

I've tried downloading xp (home) service pack 2 five times. Each time, it
installs successfully, but I can't get on the internet (or outlook express).
When I use system restore, everything goes back to normal. Any ideas?

I have had the exact same problem and have spent in excess of 6 hours on the
phone with 4 different Microsoft techs to no avail. I was told that there
must be a firewall/file left from McAfee (which I had deleted) which is
causing problem. I've gone through my system to delete all McAfee files, but
still have same problem. One tech had told me not to bother with the service
2 pack. Now, after deleting all of my McAfee, I have to go and purchase with
updated firewall. To heck with pack 2. I only hope that this will not create
issues down the road with further updates from Microsoft.

Anyone else have this problem and able to resolve?

Installed the xp service pack last night. takes my pc 3 times as long to boot
up. And seems to slow the entire system down. Thinking about performing
restore. Be nice if microsoft offered more information and support on their
updates.
