downloads disappearing

Hi guys, I'm new to newsgroups so I don't know how to tell if this has been
answered before and I'm not seeing it. My apologies.

I just built a new system with a new install of Vista 64 home premium.

I cannot download anything! In IE, when I download a file, it goes through
the process and then the window dissapears and the file is not on my system.
I used my other comp to put firefox on a flash drive and installed that, but
firefox has a similar problem. Everything that downloads gets grayed out in
the firefox downloads list & the file is not in the downloads folder. I'm
guessing this is a security "feature" of vista but I can't figure out what
to do.

I've turned off UAC, changed the setting in Misc in security options to
allow dangerous files, changed folder views to show hidden... I'm lost. And
really regretting the purchase of vista.

Thanks in advance

This problem has been hashed over in the recent past and I don't
recall there having been a resolution. It's not a frequent problem.
Here's a link to some discussion:

http://tinyurl.com/4ug2g5

The most mentioned "fix" has been to switch to Firefox.

To show awareness that The Singularity is near?

Orbit Downloader is good. I disable all the stream-capture stuff though,
unless I need it for some reason.

I often get accused of "stealing" the name from some band, from Steven R
Covey, various books and other sources. It actually started as a scientific
term.

When I was a photography student, we were tasked with creating a photography
company. I loved doing conceptual portraiture and did photos that were very
different from the socially accepted ideal of what a portrait should be. I
believe a photograph can convey the personality of the person without even
having that person in the picture. It took something of a paradigm shift for
someone to see it that way. "ParadigmShyft Photography" was born. The
miss-spelling allows it to be copy-writed. I've since found it very
frustrating that extremely few people can pronounce it, and even fewer know
what it means.

As for the downloads, it appears one of the security updates went screwy.
I've reinstalled vista again from scratch and am able to download just fine.
I've yet to download/install updates. Hopefully things still work after
getting things updated.

Hahaha...sure you have. Give us the LCCCN, ok?

Yeah right! You're an asshole who works at a help desk and doodles when
no one calls! That's is not being an animator.
Sorry!

Well DUH!!!

Art is about who we are...

Or who we wish we were...like you wish.

Yeah bozo, we call it the human race.

That is called "pre-destination"...something some believe in but most don't.

You'd be very surprised at what people know because you can't see beyond
your own fragile ego.

So now you think you're a daskalos huh?
I don't think so!

Why don't you just answer my questions and be done with it, huh?

What are you afraid of?

That I might be right?

Well...?

Frank, you are obviously scared shitless to name your supposed
business you constantly claim to own. I'm asking you again only to see
how fast you try to run away from the question for the 50th time.

ROTFLMAO!
