Hi there,
I have had a reply from MS and they have told me to try the following (sory
but it's a lot to read), I still cannot get it to work.
Let me know how you get on with this
From the information provided, I understand that you are experiencing
difficulty installing 2 hardware drivers for your system from Windows Update
Site. I appreciate your kind understanding in providing me with the exact
details regarding this issue and also the efforts that you have taken to get
this issue resolved by yourself. I realize the importance of getting this
issue resolved and look forward to providing the appropriate instructions.
For your information, the updates that you were unable to install for
Windows XP Service Pack 1 are included in Windows XP Service Pack 2 hence, I
suggest you to just do not worry about it. Also for your information, V5
Windows Update Site is the latest Windows Update Site available for Windows
XP users. In this site additional features has been added and made more
simple for you to update your system.
Based on my experience I have listed some instructions in the form of
suggestions so that it will be easier for you to follow them. The
instructions provided below are a little lengthy but I assure you that those
will definitely resolve the issue for you.
Note: Please temporarily Disable or completely Shutdown the Norton, Symantec
and the Zonelabs utilities if any installed on your system (Example: Norton
Internet Security, ZoneAlarm Firewall), as these programs conflict with
Windows Update Site and cause issues while updating. You can enable them
again once you are finished with updating your system.

or Stop and restart the service.

2. Type "services.msc" (Without the Double Quotes) and then click OK.
3. In the list of services, right-click on Automatic Updates and then click
Properties.
4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply
5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is
Stopped click on the Start Button. If the service is already started then
press Stop and then click on Start to re-set the service.
6. In the list of services, right-click on Background Intelligent Transfer
Service (BITS) and then click Properties.
7. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply
8. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is
Stopped click on the Start Button. If the service is already started then
press Stop and then click on Start to re-set the service.
9. Click OK.
Kolin, now try installing the drivers from Windows Update Site
Suggestion 2:
=========
If you are still experiencing difficulty installing updates even changing
the attributes of the Catroot2 folder then, we need to rename the Catroot2
folder after stopping the cryptographic service from your system. Once you
rename the Catroot2 folder start the cryptographic service again. We need to
do this, since this issue can occur if Catroot2 folder where windows stores
the information on who is and is not trusted to install programs on your
machine has become corrupted and unusable. To do this follow the
instructions provided below:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
3. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after
each line:
Note: We need to type the commands which are in Red color while beside each
command information is provided in brackets on what exactly happen when you
run the commands
net stop cryptsvc (To stop the Cryptographic service)
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2 (To rename the catroot2
folder if any)
net start cryptsvc (To start the Cryptographic service again)
4. Type exit to close the command prompt
Now, try installing the failed drivers from Windows Update Site.
Your feedback is very important to us, to further enhance our support.
Please let me know whether the steps resolved your issue or not and by which
suggestion?
