Have a friend I am trying to help with windows Vista basic IE 8 (had IE7)
with problem downloading files which then just do not get saved to disk where
it should be (or anywhere for that matter). The user account is has
administrator privilages but it seems as if for downloads they do not or at
least it acts that way.
It is not even running the programs when told to in the download choices. It
goes through the normal appearance of downloading and saving the file from
the temp folder but then poof is not saved to disk at designated store point.
I have used a work around for now by using the Administrator account and can
download through that but do not want to expose that account for long. Is
there some permission or registry fix for this problem.

I have checked all IE settings in control panel but they are all good for
downloads. I did install IE 8 to ssee if that would fix problem but still the
same.

One of the first things I tried, even installed a different AV AVG, Had to
use Norton unistall tool to get that bugger off the machine since the bundled
uninstall progran did not work.

Any other Ideas out there?

Hmm.. maybe you're trying to save to some folder that you have n
access to write. Then, move process (from Temp) cannot save a targe
file. Can you see your file in IE cache? usually it is flename[1].ex
([1] may vary to 2,3 etc.

Yes I had tried with no AV and also no Anti-spyware etc. No joy. I believe it
is related to some permission with this user, as I stated I believ in my orig
message. The adminitrator account can download and save files correctly,
however this user account (admin privilages) can not. Do you know what group
policy setting would preclude this or other i.e. registry hack?

I have checked and it has to be an administror/user for the writing of files
on several folders. I believe it is related to some permission with this
user, as I stated I believ in my orig message. The adminitrator account can
download and save files correctly, however this user account (admin
privilages) can not. Do you know what group policy setting would preclude
