Drag/Copy behavior in Vista vs WinXP

I have two computers:
1) Windows XP SP2, MS Office 2000, IE7
2) Vista Home Premium, Microsoft Works 8, IE7
I am unable to Drag/Copy (text) from IE7 into Word or WordPad in Vista. I
have no problem with it in XP. Where can I check and tweak any related
settings that would allow me to accomplish that task without undermining
system's security?

Full description of the problem:
In XP I often copy highlighted text from IE7 page just by dragging it onto
another one in the Task Bar (Word or Search field in the new browser window),
which opens as soon as the mouse cursor hovers over it. I can't reproduce the
same procedure in Vista. When I try, that second window's rectangle in the
Task Bar changes only to orange color but it never opens to let me finish
copying like in XP. So, I'm forced there to use the "usual" Copy/Paste
technique.

I discussed that issue first on PCWorld forum
(http://forums.pcworld.com/thread/34672?tstart=0) and two posters reproduced
the Drag-n-Copy task successfully on their systems using IE7 and Word (with
Vista UAC turned ON and IE7 "Protected mode" Enabled). The only thing new was
that the "Internet Explorer Security" warning window popped up asking them
for permission to continue: "Do you want to allow web content to be copied to
this program?" When coping to WordPad they did not get any warnings. I still
can't
accomplish that task nor am I getting any warnings on my system.

Next an MVP in Microsoft Internet Explorer Newsgroup assisted me with my
problem.

Ultimately he recommended creating a new thread here (Vista General).

Thank you for any advice.

I got the final answer from Microsoft Support via e-mail. For details follow
the link to PCWorld forum in my initial post.
