The dreaded 80244018 error

Can anyone tell me how to get passed this error and check for updates please.
I have just upgraded from xp pro to vista ultimate. I have full internet
access and email no problem but cannot getb through to the update page.

I am not using Vista, so I don't know exactly where to send you, but the
trick for XP is to reinstall Windows Update. What I suggest is that you go to
msdn, search for any knowledge base articles for installing Windows Update,
hopefully in Vista, and find a link to install Windows Update.
If you successfully reinstall Windows Update I'm sure it will fix your
problem.

For the Update page which works for XP, search on my name and you'll find
several places where I've posted the appropriate link. That will probably
work for Vista as well, or at least put you in the right place to find the
Vista update.

If only that easy! Vista won't let you go anywhere other than the vista
update site and that just produces the same error cycle. it's driving me
nuts!!!!

I have also used the proxycfg -d command to get my Windows Update working
properly.
Cleared the IE cache and history as well as set all the IE zones to default
values.

I have found a fix to all these update errors concerning v6 of Windows update.

1. From the WU page (where the error is displayed) select Use
Administrators Options.
2. Then select Windows Update Catalog. A new page will open, but this page
uses v4 of WU.
3. Then select Windows Update. Off it goes an finds all the updates.
