I tried posting this yest. but it didn't seem to post. I know Vz is making
changes to their newsgroups, but I saw a test msg. post. So I'm trying
again. Sorry if it shows up more than once.

I tried reading a CD w/a couple of videos and some pics. on it. System said
it couldn't find a Ulead reader.
It suggested one that I d/l. After the requested reboot I got pop up (from
task bar bottom rt.) saying the driver is blocked. It is not compatible. I
have dropped Roxio a note to ask them as it was their driver it is talking
about. Waiting to hear from them as well.
I am wondering if there is anyway to remove this so I don't keep getting
this pop up every time I restart?
tia

After you use System Restore to restore to a point before the download and
installation, double check the website for a driver matching your system.
You may be running Vista x86 and downloaded a driver for x64, or some such.

Ok Colin, I tired that. As I kind of expected (this is an HP machine & many
things don't work as they should w/HP), the restore did Not complete
successfully. It said sys. files & settings were not changed. I tried 3
different points all before I tried loading the driver yest.
This is a Vista Bus. machine (32). The driver failing comes up as DirectCD
from Roxio.
The cd was created on an XP machine that HP messed up on me. That is why I
have Vista.
Pc was replaced. At this point I am still waiting ot hear from Roxio. I
know if I ask HP they will
tell me do a restore to default. No way for 1 blocked driver will I do that.

Also as a side note, not that I think it matters, I have Raid 1 set up. I
mean why not, they gave me 2 500GB drives w/a Raid controller.

Any other ideas?

Try System Restore from Safe Mode. You can restore to a point in Safe Mode
even though you cannot create a new point.

Colin, I just tried that. Unless I did something wrong I did not get a
restore prompt. I went into Safe mode (F*). Control Panel > System > Sys.
Restore. Then got a box w/Sys. Properties. I got that box no matter what
option I clicked. Did I do something wrong here?

I access SR by typing "restore" in Start/Search and selecting the second
icon in the list. I also access it by right clicking on Computer and
selecting Properties and then the clicking on the Advanced System Settings
link and then on the System Protection tab.

Larry,
I use basically the same procedure as Colin except to get to System Properties control panel:
Start | type SYSDM.cpl | Enter key
