Hi all,

I have a big problem. I built a new computer a few months back, an
everything was running fine and dandy. Until I got a pretty bad virus
My software (Avast pro) removed it, and said everything was fine..
however my computer was randomly hanging, and responding very slowly. S
I figured that the virus was still in my system somewhere. So
formated, and reinstalled Vista.

Once I reinstalled Vista, everything seems MUCH better - like it wa
before. I was quite happy. Until I tried to play a MP3. Windows medi
player wasn't playing hardly any types of media... even types I know i
supports, and should play. after doing research, i found out that yo
can't uninstall Media player on Vista, and the best thing to do i
re-install windows. Fine.

So here is the issue. I am installing windows, everything seems normal
It is nearing the end of the the install process, and all of a sudden
WAM! BSOD, and says its a Driver status power failure.

After reading up on it, it seems like it is a driver issue for Hdds, o
cameras, and the like. But I didnt install anything new, everything wa
working perfectly, so what could possibly be causing this issue

Specs
Intel Quad Q6600 2.4gh
Nvidia 750i Motherboar
6gigs OCZ SLI Ra
Evga GeForce 8800 GTS 51
Ultra X-Pro 600 Watt P
WD Raptor Hd
Seagate Hd

only other thing I can think to mention, is that I was overclocking m
unit for the past month or so, but nothing too intense. I took it t
about 2.9ghz for the CPU, well within the range for my CPU, and temp
NEVER got over 120F - confirmed by both speedfan, and everest. Ra
clocks not really touched, factory timing are 4-4-5, and I changed t
4-4-4. CPU voltage was not raised. Ram voltage not raised. Video car
waas OC'd significantly, but still well within the temp ranges.

Any ideas? Anyone? PLEASE HELP

-Chri

It could be a problem with your dvd drive. Do you have a spare one to swap it
with to see if it loads up your OS??

Within temp ranges or not, overclocking can seriously and permanently damage
system hardware. Likely you have done so and replacing components will be
the only solution.

As to the slow performance of the media player, are you certain the virus
did not affect the media files themselves?

Unlikely. See Rick Rogers' answer for the better solution.
