I just purchased the full version of Vista Home Premium. In a round about
way I had no choice because I thought I didnt have my XP product key..well
sure enough 250 dollars later....FOUND IT. Ironic eh?

However my problem is this. I installed Vista and I really like it. But as
of right now, I cant really do anything. I have no sound because I cant
install the motherboard driver that has the sound driver on it. I have not
been able to try and install the video card driver because I am trying to go
in step you understand?

I had a program that I backed up called Driver Detective. It worked very
well for my XP os. I am unsure of whether or not I should try loading that
onto my other computer (Vista) and try updating all the drivers... I have a
feeling there are many .dll files or something that i will be missing...

My main question/ request is that if anyone has any links for drivers for
the following items, please post them. Also any suggestions as to how I can
make my new Vista Experiance more enjoyable.

(By the way, I found my old XP product Key, which means that if need be I
can roll back between XP and Vista. Another small question that i would like
to squeeze in would be does anybody have an recommendations they would like
to voice on partitioning a hard drive?)

Specs.
Custom Built PC (My first mistake)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.21 GHz
2 GB RAM
250 GB Hard Drive
A8N SLI Premium Motherboard
NVIDIA 7900 GT/GTO Graphics card
32-bit Vista Home Premium OS
Lite-on DVDRW SHN 160P6S ATA Device
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D ATA Device

If you need anymore information let me know... I did the best I could. Thank
you very much, I appreciate it a thousand times over.

Your board has Realtek ALC850 integrated sound, so a visit to the Reatlek
site will get you sound drivers..

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...Audio%20Codecs

For Video drivers, go to the manufacturer web site.. Vista video drivers are
in their infancy presently, but slowly they are improving..

Custom building a PC is NOT a mistake..

A Vista driver for you graphics card is on your Vista Installation Disk and
it should have installed during the installation. Check devide manager for
the driver identification. The more recent Beta drivers have caused
problems for a lot of users and should be avoided unless after reading the
release notes for them you find a reason to try them.

Wow thank you both so much for the jumpstart there. I am working on loading
the Sound Driver now. Another issue I have is with my internet. I have Alltel
DSL and it uses a Siemens Speedstream Router, which i connect to a Linksys
wireless router and then to my computer. The Alltel DSL package came with a
CD to load the files and what not in order to connect to my ISP. I have
checked the website and have been unable to find anything of use involving
Vista. It would be very convenient if I could connect to the internet from my
vista computer because from there i could continue my search for drivers and
assorted software and programs. But since when are things convenient eh?

Video card - Check.
my sound driver is going to be up to date... (loading now) - Check
Once I am able to connect to the internet, then I can look for the other
mobo files right?
So I would have to guess that my main problem here is the internet.
You have all been great! I appreciate it so much! any more suggestions and
comments are more than welcome Thank you!

The DSL modem came with sofware that you would need to use if you did not
have a router. Your router should connect fine to the DSL modem after you
set it up as described in the router manual after connecting to URL
192.168.1.1 and no id and a password of admin .

Coincidentally, i have two ethernet ports in the back of my computer... I
just decided to try plugging the other in, and now the internet works just
fine. Thankfully, I do believe that my final question is my sound. I have
downloaded the Realtek driver and The nforce4 mobo driver... neither of which
have solved my problem. the message i get is that "No Audio Output Device
Detected" does this mean that it is not recognizing my speakers? I have
Logitech 2.1 speakers... and they are plugged in haha, i check that much...
and i have check the logitech site, its almost as if the speakers dont exist.

Once again, you are all amazing thank you so much.

You should be able to hook up to the router without a problem.. just set
your internet connection to LAN..

Probably because your spekers need to use a speaker out connection and not a
line out connection which is designed for headphones and amplifiers.
