Hi!

I'm confused. I have got enabled all options in Visual Effects tab. But
there are two features that are not working (Use drop shadows for icon
labels on the desktop and Show translucent selection rectangle) and I
have a image as wallpaper with a black color background selected. I have
installed Windows Vista Business with SP1.

Somebody knows what is happening?

Thanks in advance!

Hi NoAntz

The shadows on your desktop icons may be blending in with the blac
background. As a test, change it to something light to see if the shado
is there

Not sure why the translucent selection rectangle is not working fo
you. Check here

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/13...le-disable.htm

Hope this helps some

Hi Brink!

Thank you for your answer. But I have got no results

If I change background color for my wallpaper, I can see that icon text
changes to black or to white, depending the color selected as
background. For example, if I select a yellow color (255, 255, 128) as
desktop background the icon labels on desktop appears white :-?

For the translucent selection container I have activate checkbox, but
the feature doesn't work. I make a test on a Window XP and I have same
behavior. When I access to Visual Effects tab a "Let Windows choose..."
option is selected and translucent selection container works. If a
select a custom option and I check all options and apply then
translucent selection container doesn't work and I can not be able to
make work now. Extrange, isn't it?

Thanks in advance

Yes, it is strange that it will work if you let Windows choose and not
when you use Custom. Are you using the "Windows Aero" color scheme?

I have selected "Windows Vista Basic" as color scheme, Aero's scheme i
not available. I have a Windows Vista Business ans this feature shoul
be available. I guess that I have low system score and probably thi
options are not available. But translucent selection rectangle ha
worked (by exemple), I don't know why no work now

Best regards

A low WEI score can prevent Windows Aero from being available, and the
Visual Effects options that are only availble with Windows Aero on.

Mmmh... yes, probably I have this scenario. But.... these visua
effects have worked correctly. I don't know why this feature ha
changed. And I have same behavior on Windows XP (there are no aer
problem)

Can I force Windows Aero availability

Best regards

You could try uninstalling your graphics card driver and install th
latest version. Afterwards, refresh the WEI score, then see if they wil
work for you

Hope this helps

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I have the same problem on Windows Server 2008 R2 (basically the same as Windows 7). As the background is fading when I change themes I see the shadow, but then it goes away (and on a light background leaves some ugly looking black around the white text). The selection rectangle and shadow were working a few weeks ago, but for some reson they stopped working. I know this isn't a vital Windows feature, but I really annoys me not to have it. I do have Aero enabled, working, etc. If anybody has the fix I would be very glad to get it.
