I just ordered a Seagate 400GB HD that I will add to my system (AMD 3000+
Barton, 1.5GB DDR333,ATI AIW Pro 9800 128mb ) for use with Vista beta 2 and
was wondering if dual boot setup with XP SP2 is automatic (easy) just like
in the past with other Windows OS's.

Yes, it's still mindlessly simple, provided the older OS is installed
first and you've a separate partition for each OS.

Its still a good idea to back up any important data if you plan on
installing this on a production machine.

Actually, if Vista is installed on its own partition, then the other
partitions do not get affected.

I have not found this to be the case.

Here is what I have tried.

1) Starting with an existing system with partition 1 as xp, partition 2 as
ubuntu, partition 3 as ubunu swap, partition 4 vista. Installed vista from
another partition and it goes well and then reboots. After this the MBR is
completely gone and cant be restored and windows xp cant not be booted into.
Ubuntu boots with its startup disk. Windows XP will not boot on its startup
disk.

2) I tried again with XP in Part1 and then a vista install from a third
partition to the 2nd partition and the same thing.

If anyone could provide me with some assitance that would be much appreciated.

How can I keep my Vista from destroying me existing system.
