Dual Boot Windows XP/Vista Beta 2 Upgrade to RC1

For what it is worth, it works.

Launching RC1 install from within Vista and selecting the ambiguous
"Upgrade" option actually does upgrade Vista Beta 2 to RC1 without touching
Windows XP or changing any setting in boot. Even my renamed boot options
stayed intact.

RC1 is so much better that Beta 2; faster, more stable, all around a more
pleasant experience. But was the upgrade option worth it? Hmmm... not
really. Clean OS installations still seem to be the best bet. Wow... that
was a time consuming process. It was probably a good 2.5 plus hours. And
after it was all said and done, I still had some house cleaning to do.

1. Audigy 2 ZS stopped working. I uninstalled the console and reinstalled.
Sound is working fine, now.

2. I downloaded the Avast! beta and installed that.

3. ATI Catalyst: Yikes! What a pain. I should have uninstalled that
before trying the upgrade. 45 minutes for the system to chug through the
uninstall. Didn't bother installing the update for RC1. My Radeon works
fine as is.

4. My Logitech Webcam is still being stubborn but I haven't really taken
the time to uninstall everything and try a fresh go at it. Let's just say
Upgrade didn't.

5. Not much beyond my windows login ID, password and wallpaper survived as
far as settings go. Sounds, visualizations, themes, all reverted to that
Vista standard. Windows Mail newsgroups all required I re-enter my user
name and password and what an ugly mess of "recovered messages." Some
upgrade!

I couldn't find the technical refresh for Office 2007 Beta. From what I
have been reading, it is not available yet. But what does it fix? So far,
everything in Office seems to be working just fine. Outlook retained its
settings much to my relief.

Anyway, thought I would pass on the good word for those still contemplating
the upgrade.

Dave

The Office 2007 BETA 2 TR fixes a lot of performance issues on Vista and
Windows XP.

Andre ,

What is TR ( test release ?) It's better than the Public Office 2007
beta2 ?

Can we / do you think we / should install it PRIOR to upgrade ?
How does it help with the upgrade process ? ( briefly)

TR is Technical Refresh, I believe, and the last time I checked, it hadn't
yet been released. It will not be another full download, from what I have
read on this newsgroup. I doubt it will change anything visible. I don't
think you need to install it before RC1 unless you have an older version of
Office 2007 (before the last beta2).
