Hi everybody,
new to the forum andhope you can help.
On my system I'm running XP and Vista on 2 partitions. The problem is
that I must reinstall XP due to some "problems" but, in so doing, I'll
be missing the dual boot of the system and won't be able to launch
Vista.
Can you please tell me how to recreate the boot file?

Thank you
Lorenzo

PS: sorry if this is not the correct part of the forum where to ask

Hi,

You boot with the Vista disk and run a startup repair. Afterwards, run
bcdedit /add to create an entry for XP. There are also a number of boot
editors like EasyBCD and VistaBootPro available for these tasks, and are
somewhat easier than using the command line.

This KB Article (not for the faint of heart or technically-challenged)
explains how to repair the Vista boot process after installing WinXP:

Windows Vista no longer starts after you install an earlier version of
the Windows operating system in a dual-boot configuration

MS-MVP John Barnett's Guide is considerably more user-friendly:

If you have your boot files on the Vista drive, you can disconnect it and
install XP again, then reconnect Vista and make sure it is listed first in
your Boot Priority.
Otherwise, Start-up repair after the install would be the option. It should
see the XP system and set it up again. If it doesn't see it follow the
other replies.
