Hi, I just purchased a machine with a 64 bit OEM. I have create
another partition because I want to install 32 bit on there. However
it is not working so I was wondering if there was something I am no
doing right here. I want to use the 32 bit for internet access an
itunes and the 64 bit for gaming

I do not have any discs with the 64 bit OS on it either everything
have here is 32 bit

Is this possible? Thanks

Hi,

It's certainly possible. Are you sure they preinstalled x64? That'd be
unusual as most are preinstalled with x86 (the 32 bit version). If it's x64,
it will designate that in the system type line of system properties.

If it truly is, then what steps are you taking to install x86, and (please
be specific) where does it fail?

Also, a preinstalled system should already include x64 drivers for
wired/wireless internet access, you should not have to revert to 32-bit for
that. At worst, all you may need to do is download and install an
appropriate driver.

As to iTunes, you simply need a higher version as described here:

Download and install VistaBoot Pro. It is an easy way to correct the
problem you describe.

Thank you for your help. I am a little bit of a noob here with all of
this, so excuse my lack of knowledge, but what will this do exactly?

Nothing that you were asking to do.
Its a graphical boot manager, makes it easy to do the exact same thing you
can do with bcdedit.

It won't help you get the second installation installed.

What is failing for you with the 32bit installation ?

I fail to see your reasoning.

Why not use 64-bit for gaming, Internet access, iTunes, and everything
else??

Using Windows Explorer, do you see a D: partition with one long file (that
you can't open) that is named something like Recover D:\ If so, search for
"create recovery disks" without the quotes. You should find instructions to
create the disks that you wish. It will require about 3 DVDs or 16 CDs.

I use McAfee because it comes free with comcast and it is no
compatible. I'd rather be using the internet on the 32 bit where I ca
have protection for my comp. I just have heard that many things are no
compatible and I had no problems with 32 bit in the past

Get Avast Home which supports 64-bit and is free.

What is "not working"?

If you have 64bit preinstalled then you would not have a Vista 32bit dvd
unless you bought a retail copy of Vista. What is it you are describing as
"everything I have here is 32 bit." What is the "everything"?

Internet access should work fine with your 64bit OS. The default IE7 is
32bit. What problem are you having that causes you to think it relates to
the bitness of your OS?

The preinstalled 64bit Vista is not a retail copy of Vista so you do not get
the 32bit dvd for free unless the computer manufacturer decided to provide
one. Otherwise you will need a retail copy of Vista. It needs to be a full
edition because you intend to keep the 64bit Vista already installed.
