Has anybody tried dual booting win98 with vista? I tried it but it wasn't
successful, even though I put vista on a separate (NTFS formatted) partition
the option boot to win98 wouldn't show up at the start. I've ditched vista
till anybody else has found a way. Had to use partition magic to reclaim the
'Vista' drive so my programs would work again in win98.
What vista did was to change drive letters i.e. C: to D:, D: to C: so that
win98 was no longer on the boot drive.
One positive was although all my other partitions (up to J were still
FAT32 they could be seen when in Vista.

Yes - if you look through recent posts you'll see most of us are dual
booting. Here's how ...

Make sure XP is on the default boot drive - i.e. C:
Run Partition magic and create a new primary partition on another drive -
mine's on P: (the 3rd in the logical series). Make sure this is set to
Active.
Set the bios to boot from CD/DVD and reboot with Vista DVD in it.
Vista should then detect the two active patitions and let you install it on
the new drive - it remembers all the drive designations (even though I
missed out IJKLMNO).
It automatically sets up the new dual boot option (NB it does not use
Boot.ini from Win XP, but is registry based, and a bit tricky to edit ...
but it can be done. I managed!)

You could use:

a) Booitng - or
b) A separate physical disk - or
c) Run Win 98 under Virtual PC, which is free and works on Vista Home
Premium (despite what it says.)

I coudn't get Win 98 to run natively on my new hardware but it does work on
Virtual PC.
