Dual display problems

Vista Home Premium 32, with all latest fixes except SP1
on HP laptom.
(I installed SP1 at some point but if failed to boot 2 days
later so I recovered from install point).

I have dual display, the LCD and external CRT monitor
as a cloned display. I use fn+F4 to choose between the
two displays. I have TMM disabled.

Why does Vista keep resetting the display settings to "Extend display"
between the two monitors? I have to unclick the check box to
disable this feature?

The SP1 failure is probably related to the Display Adapter driver problem
you seem to have. I would try to find later drivers for it and Vista.

I have the latest display drivers from HP. nVidia does NOT provide drivers
directly
to the consumer for their OEM parts

Then you probably need to wait for HP to provide a fix

Have you tried to update (or rollback) the NVidia via it's properties
window?
Right click
Computer
select
Manage
select
Device Drivers
find your Nvidia under Display adapters
double click it and select
the driver tab
(If you see the rollback button available you may want to
try that first)
If it does not help..
then try
the Update Driver button.
use the Search Computer and Internet option
when it opens.

Been there done that - and got "Microsoft has determined that software for
your
device is up to date!"

Up to date is NOT equal to bug free unfortunately in my case.

No one still has answered the question - Why does Vista keep setting
the option I chose not to set?

If this is a system-wide setting (I think it is) and it is in Display
Settings, try:

Opening an elevated Command Prompt, (right click and run as admin), and
type:

desk.cpl

Try changing the setting there, and see if it sticks.
