I'm using Windows Mail now to read and post here, and although my messages
do appear, whenever I hit "Send" I get this type of message...

Your message was successfully posted. However, Windows Mail was unable to
contact the community server, so rating, category, and other community
information was not included with the message. See the News error log for
details. Subject 'Is this a dumb question?', Account: 'Microsoft
Communities', Server: 'msnews.microsoft.com', Protocol: , Port: 80,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 200, Error Number: 0x8007000D

If I can read and send, what configuration information is missing?

Thanks - Julian

Hello Julian,

For newsgroup better use a NG reader like JetBrains omea reader. It is free
and you have a good overview.

I agree about using a different newsreader, your error looks like it may
be a firewall problem (You could try posting a message with it turned
off) or it may be that the server is having trouble so you could just
wait and see if it just goes away.

News servers don't update your client at all, you have to leave the
group and then come back or tell it to download new messages to see what
you just posted. You can set this to auto but I think most people prefer
to scan down the group, reply as they feel necessary and then go back in
their own time to collect new messages.

This is nothing to do with that error message, as a newsreader W Mail is
working properly as expected.

If you go to Tools_Options, the 3rd line down in the general tab, you will
see a line "Use newsgroup message rating features"
If you uncheck that, the error message should go away.

Why it isn't connecting....?

Some time ago it was very intermittent so I assumed a server issue,
perhaps it is the server again. Seemed like it got bogged down,
overloaded , or whatever.

Thanks to all...

I doubt Firewall issues but it was worth suggesting. (Vista's own is on, and
my linux based FSG3 has another, but it's all set up nicely and everything I
want to normally goes through just fine)

Ah! Server problem. "Message rating features" - now disabled. Thanks for the
info.

I'm only using W Mail because the web interfaces left something to be
desired... it's basic, it works, it'll do... suggestions for other
newsreaders I'll save for future reference - I only read here because I have
problems (read that any way you want ) so now I understand the issues
everything should be fine.

Thanks folks!

Julian

I hope someone is still looking at this. I am trying to post a question.
Follow all the instructions, chose a discussion group (general) clicked on
new, question, and then nothing! Don't know where to type in my question.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
