Duplicate Documents bug

By a slip of the hand, I recently dragged my Documents folder from a
"Folders" pane in an open browser to my Desktop screen.

WHat resulted was 2 Documents folders in my Username directory. However,
they were not identical. One contained my original documents, and one was
empty except for empty tiers of alternating Documents and Desktop icons.

My Start Menu link pointed to the empty one, which was unhelpful, so i
proceeded to copy my files from the duplicate Documents folder into the
folder with the Start-menu path, with the intention of deleting the
duplicate. The files copied. I sent the duplicates to the recycle bin. I
then attempted to delete the empty documents folder and got an error.

Since i wasn't able to delete it, i decided to rename it Documents2.
However, when i did this, more folders appeared (Desktop2, a copy of Desktop,
etc) and all the recently copied files successfully transfered to Documents
disappeared.
I recovered copies from the recycle bin, but I have been unable to solve the
issue.

I think Microsoft should be aware of all the duplication and circularity
issues.

Has anyone figured this out yet? I'm having a similar problem: tw
documents folders appear, only one of which has anything in it. (Yes,
have looked for hidden files.) The desktop link reverts to this empt
one, as does the one in the start menu. Turns out, the properties hav
it going to users\me\favorites\documents rather than users\me\documents
If I change the properties, it immediately goes back t
...\favorites\documents. What is going on here?! I just want to have
folder to documents, not have new folders created, and not have th
properties of my folders change once I've set them! Please help
