DVD burnining

Ok let say you record a TV program or Movie using
Nova T usb freeview stick and you want to burn it to a DVD,
if I use windows moviemaker to cut out the ads and then
render to DVD I end up with large chunks missing from the finished
DVD? Yet if I use a program called VideoReDo I end up with
a great copy of the film or TV program on DVD.
