Hi there!

Every time my Vista x64 Ultimate wakes up from sleep for the first time
after rebooting, the DVD drive disappears. I need to reboot it in order to
have access to the drive. Is it a known problem, and how to solve it?

I have a similar problem, only mine won't come back even after a reboot. As
of this morning my
DVD-RW (D: Drive) does not show up at all and is not recognized. Yet in the
device manager
it's there with the yellow error triangle...

Device Status:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and
to see if there is a solution available.

Driver details:
C:\\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys

Update Driver:
*results online search....The best driver software for your device is
already installed.
Windows has determined that driver software for you device is up to date.

I get this when trying to install my driver:
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your
device.
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while
attempting to install it. Windows cannot load the device driver for this
hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing (code 39)
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and
check the support section for driver software.

OK so now I go for a driver and support...

Sony NEC Optiarc Model# AD-7170A
Can't find a driver for it from Sony or Optiarc...can't find drivers for any
of their devices for that matter.

Did a system restore back four days.....no help

......stuck

This doen't seem to pertain to the problem
SYMPTOMS
After you upgrade a computer to Windows Vista, the CD drive or the DVD drive
in the computer no longer works as expected.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the filter drivers in the CD and the DVD storage
stack are not migrated successfully to Windows Vista.

Guys, the solution (and symptoms) described in that MS link is something
different; here it's as if the drive itself was removed - no trace of it in
Device Manager! But after reboot - voila, it's here again.

Well I went to the link since the (code 39) matched my problem and tried to
use the
Method 1: Guided Help to delete the registry entries, 314060.exe self
extracting cabinet.
Only this will not even open on my system and is for XP so I tried to open
it compatible with XP SP2 and it will open but
experiences an error and stops. Next I go to delete the filter from the
registry as described only the registry appears
different than the description. Was I supposed to delete the entire filter
or just the contents of the filter?
and since it was so vague on this I didn't proceed. So here I am with no DVD
drive recognised by my system and still stuck in the mud.

I have the same issue on a brand new (1 day old) HP 530 Laptop with
Vista and the same Optiarc AD-7530 unit. Nothing I do: i.e previous
restore point, driver search, BIOS update or reinstall, internet search
fixes the issue. I too have attempted the fix shown above and thanks
for the info, but this is a different registry I think and the PC hangs.

Help..... HP are no good as they just say return the PC and we'll sort
it..... ummm.

Jason

Yeah Jason, this is becomming quite an issue. I searched several Vista
Support groups thus far and found that this is a very common problem yet no
one semms to have come up with an answer.
Fortunatly for me this isn't my only computer or I would be screwed right
now.
