Right-click on the DVD drive in Device Manager
and select uninstall, then restart your computer.
Vista will automatically reinstall the DVD drive.

did you install Itunes or another burning software ???
this is a know problem with Itunes. uninstall it, restart your PC and
you'll get your burners back. It has to do with Itunes using a Gear burning
mechanism that is incompatible with some DVD drives in Vista and overrides
the installed drivers. if you google you can find a registry fix to help.

Liar! That is simply not true. Either you're just plain stupid or else
you're a fukkin troll, but what you said is not at all true.

You idiot...you're talking about two different things. You may have had
to upgrade your SOFTWARE BUT CERTAINLY NOT THE BURNER (hardware) ITSELF!
Be careful about giving completely wrong advice.

So you're as dumb as the op? You'd replace the CD/DVD burner instead of
the just the software?
Oh, I almost forgot, you're the computer genius who did an in place
upgrade of Vista business then complained it was MS's fault that it
won't run properly.
You prove once again that you're the village idiot!
Frank

Well fool, I don't know WHICH CD/DVD burner make or model the OP has
since he didn't say, so I don't know what the issue is. You on the
other hand just launch into another round of bluster, bullshit and
feces throwing. That's all some asshole like you is capable of doing.
