DVD+R disks not readable

My dell dimention 2400, windows xp, sp-3 can read DVD-R and CD disks but is
not able to read DVD+R disks.

How do I go about correcting this so I can read DVD+R disks?

First, this isn't really a Media Center question, which is what this forum
discusses, probably better to post in an XP General or hardware forum.

However, a couple of quick things to ask:

Does it not recognize these discs in any application?

Did the drive ever read +R's?

If so, has something been added/updated lately?

Have you tried reinstalling the drive?

Checked the Dell site for updates for the drive?
