My DVD-ROM (SR-8588) comes up as new hardware with every reboot.
The wizard can't find the drivers and I can't find them manually.
The mfg website says it uses windows xp drivers and provides no download.
I get a message that the device may not work properly, but it works fine.
any ideas what is causing this??

Don't know the cause but have you tried a system restore back to before the
problem occurred?

I also tried copying the driver.cab file from cd to i386 folder.
I tried to search for drivers in windows update (couldn't find anything)

You might want to remove the DVD-ROM from Device Manager and shut down .
Boot up and your OS will install the device. The error message should stop.
Did you install an update or a Service pack lately
