DVD-RW recording tab missing

In properties of my 2 Liteon SHM-165h6s DVD-RW drives there is no
"Recording TAB" also there is no erase option on the drives menu even
with a DVD+RW in the drive.

Windows DVD maker does not detect any recordable drives neither does
Ulead Video Studio 11.

Nero 8 however does detect the 2 drives and Nero Vision can create DVDs
on either of them.

I have tried the MSKB but it does not help and Google only points to XP
fixes

http://pcspec.brion.co.uk for full system spec.

I had this same problem awhile back.

What I did was to open Device Manager, locate you CD/DVD drives, right-click
on each of them and select uninstall.

After you have removed all your CD/DVD drives re-boot you computer. Vista
will detect you drives and re-install them. I had to do this a few times
before Vista would install the proper drivers.

I've tried this once with no joy But I'll try some more.

I've now removed and rebooted several times and have upgraded the
firmware from HS0D to HS0E. Nothing makes windows detect the drive is
writeable

Thanks but I've solved it now

I have my DVD-RW attached to a JMicron SATA controller.

1. I changed the driver from JBM36x to "Standard dual Channel PCI IDE
Controller". The device than moved from "Storage controllers" to "IDE
ATA/ATAPI controllers"

2. Rebooted

3. Deleted the 2 DVD drives from "DVD/CD-ROM drives" that were showing
as SCSI

4. Rebooted

5. The DVD drive now show as ATA ant the "Recording tab" is now present.
DVD Maker now lists the 2 drives and so does Ulead VideoStudio 11

I'm so happy but it should not have taken so long to resolve

I am having the same problem. could you please elaborate you how you did
this: "1. I changed the driver from JBM36x to "Standard dual Channel PCI IDE
Controller". The device than moved from "Storage controllers" to "IDE
ATA/ATAPI controllers"'

I think that would solve my problem as well. Thank you

In device Manager. Click "Update driver software..." then "Browse my
computer for driver software" then "Let me pick from a list of device
drivers on my computer" The "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller"
should be listed.

I must admit the correct driver was not listed the first time I did
this. You might have to get the latest JMB36x driver and install this
first.
