Ok guys, I finally am able to burn a dvd from my camcorder with DVD maker.
However, the dvd will not play in my dvd player. It's a fairly new Sony
progressive scan dvd player and says it play all types of dvd's
(R+,RW+,R-,RW-) My computer is brand new and also plays all of the above
dvd's. I was using DVD-R for my burning, it is what I use when backing up
dvd's that I own with no problems. So why is DVD maker having a problem
encoding my camcorder to dvd format? Or is there another problem that I dont
know about. I greatly appreciate all of your help.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Which file format did you choose? Most DVD players are unable to playback
disks in other than MPEG2 format (although some can cope with MPEG4). Another
point to note is that some players can be picky as to the brand of media that
they can read. Try a well established brand such as Verbatim.

Please excuse me because I am not as computer literate as most folk. When
you asked which file format I used, In dvd movie maker there is an option to
use wmv or avi. I chose avi. Is that what you mean. If you mean something
else than I need more help there as these are the only two that was given.
Thanks for helping though.

You were correct, I was not "publishing' the dvd. So, I did it all over again
exactly the way you said but to no avail. It still plays on my pc and xbox360
but not in any of my dvd's. So very frusterating. I do appreciate everyone's
help though. This site is great for that. Guess its back to the drawing
board. Any more suggestions would be much appreciated as well. I really
really want this to work.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. Odd really, if it plays on the XBox, I
can't understand why it won't play on any other machine.

There is another solution, but it involves spending a bit of money.
Download a trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements 4, and see if the
DVDs that it creates work on external players. If it does, then so can
go one step further and purchase it.

I'm starting to think now that its the way I present it in DVD movie maker.
After I upload from camera I drag the files down and add whatever effects and
things i want and then I hit publish. Doesn't work. However, what I noticed
is that the file that I have before I do all the effects, I am able to use
convertxtodvd and burn it to play on my dvd. But the one that has all the
effects and stuff on cannot get converted with convertxtodvd. Interesting.
Could it be dvd movie maker?
