Hi,

I have a ASUS DVD-ROM and a Pioneer DVR-111 installed on the IDE BUS on my
Asus Commando. Both drives are detected by the BIOS just fine and work
flawlessly. But everytime I start Vista the Pioneer is gone from the Hardware
list, I have to go to the Device Manager and Rightclick the DVD/CD-Rom drives
and select 'scan for hardware changes' then the drives comes up.
I have no idea how I can solve this but it's very very annoying.

falc410,

Take a look at this Microsoft publication to see whether is contains
anything that applies to your situation:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/314060

Post back if you need to. Print it out and read carefully.

Hi freddy,

and thanks for the link. Sadly it didn't help me. Windows doesn't list the
device under the device manager until I 'scan for recent hardware changes'.
And the driver is from MS so I can't update it or install another one. The
device is also not disabled and not shown with question mark, it's like
invisible until I scan for those hardware changes.
Weird part is, if I go to Control Panel - Hardware and start looking for
Plug'n'Play Hardware it doesn't turn up, also under Computer Management the
drive isn't shown as well - until I 'scan for recent hardware changes'.
