Hi All,

Wondered if anyone had a similar problem (I know I'm running older versions
than most) and if anyone has a resolution to it.

I've recently updated to I.E. 5.5 SP2 running on ME and everything appears
fine... I updated with several patches including KB834707.

I now cannot get windows update V4 to run unless I uninstall the patch, then
it runs fine... and tells me I need to download it!

I get the windows update searching message then the page stalls... after a
while I get a message indicating that the process has not completed and press
OK to wait or cancel to reload the page and try again... with the same result
and the same message... endlessly. Any comments or suggestions appreciated as
I don't want to run without the patch as it's a critical.

P.S. tried unload and reload of iuctl.dll, moving microsoft to trusted zone
etc... with no effect.

Cheers, David.

Hello

There is a specific kb834707 for your version IE 5.5 SP2 for win ME.
I would try that one if you have not done so.
Download the whole package and install.
Info
File Name:
IE5.5sp2-KB834707-WindowsME-x86-ENU.exe
Download Size: 2449 KB
Date Published: 10/12/2004
Version: 5.5SP2

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

You could find a specific error number in the Windows Update.log file.
and it could help to find the problem.

also this ms article could help.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319585
it does mention thei uctl.dll but not Iuengine.dll

plus manual wu maybe of help

For Windows 98 and Windows Millenium Edition:
download the controls from
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...ansi/iuctl.cab and
save them to your desktop. Extract the .cab file following the steps below:

1. Go to the desktop and right click the iuctl.cab file.
2. Click "Extract to."
3. Point to a known location (like the desktop) and click "OK."
4. Go to the location you selected and right click on the iuctl.inf file.
