Vista:
In Control Panel> Default Programs, make sure that Internet Explorer is the
default in
1. Set your default programs
2. Associate a file type or protocol with a program... (URL Internet
Shortcut)
3. Set program access and computer defaults
XP:
Control Panel> Add or remove programs> Set program access and defaults.

Check for an incompatible browser add-on.
