It's an Ethernet cable that has some wires crossed to allow two NIC cards to
connect without a router.

It's the "poor man's LAN". You create two static IP's in the TCPIP
properties, and join the same workgroup to share folders. Running Easy
Transfer would allow saving the data on the other (new) machine via the LAN
path.
As I understand the Belkin ET cable, it does not use the Rj45 ports, it's
USB.
