I have tried to transfer from 32 bit vista business to 64 bit home premium
with belkin F5U258 cable but just starts the transfer then stops and will not
move forward. After researching the Belkin site it states that this cable
does not support 64 bit version. Does anyone have any suggestions how to
easly transfer files from old laptop to new laptop?
Thanks,
Willie

Join both machines to the same "Workgroup" and use a 'crossover' Ethernet
cable to connect the two machines. Share the files and transfer them, making
sure you 'take ownership' of them for the new users.

Use EasyTransfer without the cable, instead use an external drive or flash
drive or CD/DVD to make the transfer.

Thanks Mark,

When you say "crossover" do you mean network cable? or something like Belkin
transfer cable.

It's an Ethernet cable that has some wires crossed to allow two NIC cards to
connect without a router.
RJ45 Wiring Pinouts and Hints crossover cable:
http://www.winnpsb.org/Tutorials/RJ45/

It's the "poor man's LAN". You create two static IP's in the TCPIP
properties, and join the same workgroup to share folders. Running Easy
Transfer would allow saving the data on the other (new) machine via the LAN
path.

As I understand the Belkin ET cable, it does not use the Rj45 ports, it's
USB.
