easy transfer to xp from vista?

I need big files from vista laptop back onto older pc with xp. I'v
done this once before with my Belkin USB cable but now since installin
my new hard drive with xp sp3 it won't work. It automaticall
recognises vista on the xp pc, despite setting the vista lap top as th
old computer. What could I have missed
