After reading many posts on Vistax64 forums and a few blogs an
comments, I decided that Registry Cleaners are no longer needed i
Vista. I now believe this and have stopped using EasyCleaner to clean m
registry. Now that I've stopped using it, does anyone recommend I und
all the registry cleaning it's done? It provides an "Undo" feature t
restore registry keys it deleted, but I'm afraid doing so might rende
my system unusable, especially since I've installed/uninstalled man
programs ever since I first started cleaning my registry. Do yo
recommend undoing all the cleaning it did and are their possible risk
in doing so? Thanks.

One more thing, I also registry cleaned using CCleaner. In addition t
EasyCleaner, should I restore CCleaners backups of the registry

Actually, Registry Cleaners have never been particularly useful on any
Microsoft OS, and have always been dangerous to use.

This is good.

As you've made changes to your computer's software configuration since
using those snake oil products, you can't trust their "undo" features to
safely put things back, primarily because the "back" that they've
recorded no longer exists. Leave well enough alone; if your PC is still
working properly, don't try to "fix" it.

Thanks Bruce. I'll just leave my system alone then and uninstall my
registry cleaners. My computer is running just fine. One more thing,
besides defragmenting the computer and cleaning junk (I use ccleaner for
this), are there any other tools to use or things to do for maintaining
Vista?

I hate to nitpick (and I'm sure I'll unleash a torrent of abuse), but Vista
has its own perfectly good, automatic, defragger. You don't need to even
think about it.

There is not one jot of proper, validated evidence published that shows
third party defraggers have any advantage over the built one.

That I agree with, the Vista defrag is the best for it. All the res
about not having to use Reg Cleaners is just crab. unless one wants t
run with decreased efficienc

Haha, oddly enough, I also use the Vista Defragmenter despite all the
negative comments about it. I used to use JKDefrag until I found out it
undid Vista's boot optimization.

No, that's pretty much all that is needed: cleaning out the temporary
files, and defragmentation.

What about speed? The built in defragger took several hours to do what
my third party app did in under 60 minutes. However to be fair, it has
been a while since I tried the built in program...
