ecache.sys error

I have a strange problem: when I disconnect an usb hdd from my laptop and I
try to shutdown the system I receive a "page fault in nonpaged area" and
below I see that this error is referred to "ecache.sys".
Normal behaviour if I restart and if I use memory sticks.
Also trying in Safe Mode, and with all the services disabled (except pnp,
obviously).

Any suggestion ?
