edited channels revert after listings updated

How to I force Media Center to remember what channels I want listed in the
guide?
I remove channels I don't actually get from the cable TV provider, as
they aren't paid for (they are just static). I use "edit channels" to do this
(you uncheck all the boxes). The listings kept getting reverted back,
listing all the channels in the guide. I discovered than if I manually get
the updated listings, the channels revert back when the listings are updated,
so I assume the automatic update it what has been reverting the channel
listings.

I have found many people asking this question by searching with Google, and
not a single suggested solution.
