I still use an old DOS program that requires that I add a command line to
config.sys. I am now using Vista and can't figure out how to make the needed
changes so this program will work. How can I edit config.sys in the Vista
environment?

The '%windir%/system32' folder contains autoexec.nt and config.nt, which are
used by default. Other files can be assigned instead by rightclicking the
dos app's icon for 'Properties', and use the 'Advanced' settings to change
the path to your special files.

You don't. Vista doesn't use it, at all.

You might try using Vista's C:\Windows\System32\Config.NT, but there's
no guarantee that it'll work for the specific application you're trying
to run.

Try using Dos Box, a DOS emulator.
