What will the effect on my older 16 bit software if I install the various
security updates that you suggest?

On two other computers it kept me from using the software, so I am being
very careful as to which security updates I install this time.

Could you let me know which updates will interfere with my use of the older
software and which ones won't?

Thanks

Who is "you" and what did "they" suggest?

What software? What updates? If you uninstall the updates, is it better?
Are their updates for the broken software that improves their performance on
a modern system?

Only if you let us know what you are running (Operating System, the other
applications, the updates you are speaking of, etc...) And then - you would
be better off checking with the manufacturers of said applications.

No Problem.

No one here represents or works for Microsoft.

If you choose not to keep a machine fully patched, it should NOT be
connected to the internet or any networks!

Support for Windows Update:

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates.

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.
