Apparently I need to do some registry hacking in order to peovide for
inadequacies in the installation routines for SP2. I wondering, if I run a
firewall, popup blocker, virus scanner, update Office independently and use
Firefox, then do I really need the grief which I see others having and myself
experiencing with the SP2 update?

SP2 updates over 5 millions lines of code in Windows XP
in order to enhance its overall security and fix previous
known issues.
Your "firewall, popup blocker, virus scanner, update Office
independently and use of Firefox" is not a substitute or
a good rationale for not installing SP2.

Dr. Bonehead:
I can sympathize with your frustration...I often bail on using IE, and use
Firefox or Navigator instead..
