When one is NOT signed into MSN Messenger, what does ones contacts/friends
see. ie. "offline", nothing or "not signed in" etc. Thanks for any replies.
(btw I know about the status settings when one is signed in to msn msger).

They see whatever status that is set on your end. If you aren't signed
in at all or are set to "appear offline" then you are simply displayed
as unavailable.

Greetings,

They see you as offline -unless- you've set your Live ID to work with Windows Live Mobile, in
which case you appear as a Mobile contact when you're not signed in.
