Email Address Not Verified

I just linked a bunch of passports together, and since doing that Messenger's
complaining that my email address isn't verified. I have previously verified
the email address I'm using.

I've followed the instructions to re-verify, but the page says that
"re-verification is not necessary" or words to that effect.

So I'm stuck

Messenger 8.5 on Windows Vista 64 and 32 bit systems, same problem on each.

Only seems to have happened since the Linked Passport thing (if I had to
guess at anything, I'd guess it was related to that).

Any ideas?

The request got routed to Messenger support, who noted that yes, the email
address was verified, and I should be able to access (list of MSN urls)
without issue.

I can access MSN URLs without issue, but unfortunately my email address is
still unverified, by Messenger's standards.

I've restated the problem and reiterated that it's not yet fixed; waiting to
hear back from round two.

To close the loop:

Another fruitless back-and-forth - they wanted me to start deleting stuff
and reinstalling things, which I decided I'd put off.

Instead, I un-linked my Live IDs, and went to bed. The next morning,
everything was working again - no toasts, display name worked fine, the lot.

The 8.5 release came out a day or so later, but I haven't upgraded yet. When
I do, I'll think about linking passports again.
