Email software connected to Windows Live Messenger

I run Vista Home Premium. Originally I therefore used Windows Mail as my
email application, but on finding out that Windows 7 would need Windows Live
Mail instead, I have now loaded that application, and, reasonably
successfully, have transferred my email operations to it.
But, whenever I am on the Windows Live Messenger screen and choose the "Open
your Email Inbox" option, it always starts Windows Mail, even though I may
have Windows Live Mail running at the time. Of course, Windows Mail then asks
"Do I want to make this my default mail Handler" which I don't, as I have set
WLM to that purpose.
How can I change the email application in Windows Live Messenger??

Neil

Greetings Neil,

I assume you mean the Live Profile on the website? If it's in the Photos themselves, you can
head over to http://photos.live.com signed into the same Live ID, drill down into the albums,
choose the photo you want removed and remove it there.

If it's one of the updates on your What's New feed (like the Messenger display picture
updates), just hover that particular update, choose the small blue gear icon that appears on
the right, and choose Remove this update.

Greetings,

It sounds like you just need to change the default application for mail in Vista. To do
that, click the Start button and then type Default Programs. When the Default Programs
shortcut appears, click it.

Then choose 'Set program access and computer defaults', Custom will no doubt be selected,
just click the arrow in that row. Then under the choose default e-mail program option,
choose Windows Live Mail and click OK.

Note that if you use the other "default program" applets in Vista, they might not set it up
correctly as Live Messenger uses a different process to determine what the default mail
handler is.

Hi Jonathon,

Your procedure to de-activate Window Mail and make Windows Live Mail the
default has worked well.

Thanks for the details.
