Hi, hope you can help - I have Norton 2007 (email settings set to low on all
addresses) and Windows Defender. I cannot receive emails from some addresses
in the USA. On my Vista Windows mail junk is set to low. Hotmail is set to
low and I have put their addresses on approved list. What can be wrong?

Look under Tools/Message Rules

If you get some mail but not others see what the missed ones have in
common.
Some ISPs block some providers since they are know for their spam
distribution.
Check with your ISP about the specific Email addresses missed.

You mention Windows Mail and Hotmail, are the same mails missed on
both?

Otherwise since this is a mail issue, you should ask in:
microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

Two wrong things: you've installed Norton and Vista. Go back to XP (and
don't put Norton on it) or upgrade to Ubuntu and use Thunderbird.

Your ISP may have blocked some address groups, does your ISP contract
come with any kind of mail filtering? Look at their website if not sure.

There could be a number of things causing this, Norton email filtering
being a prime candidate. You only need Norton running, you do not gain
anything from their "Email" filtering and often it causes trouble so if
you can find the setting try disabling that, the live protection will
still work although personally I think Norton is worthless and a
resource hog so would get rid of it completely. Needless to say if you
disable it all be careful what you open to read...

If you can;t find anything and post back please include your ISP and if
possible the kinds of addresses being rejected, but NOT the actual
addresses, example say works but
does not work. They maybe someone can be a bit more specific in their
answer.

Also mention if these senders were trying to send any kind of attachment
such as .doc files.

See, now who is making an ass of himself? Mr. Ubuntu, the marketing
department. Just FYI.

Once your e-mail settings have been fixed, remove Norton from your computer
and install either AVG Free or AVAST as your antivirus. You will be much
happier. Norton and McAfee are both resource hogs and cause more problems
to your system.

What, exactly, is your problem with my suggestions? Or are you just
looking for an opportunity to hone your ability to insult and lie?

I agree with the first part of your answer, the second, not so much.

No, you are looking for every opportunity to preach YOUR holy-goodness of
Ubuntu to the VISTA group, where you are NOT wanted. That is what is wrong
with your suggestions. Just FYI.

Actually, removing Norton may take care of the problems, so I would start
there before doing any other fixes, then deal with any reaming problems
after getting that resource sucking piece of garbage off the system.
