Embedded Media Player in IE7 broken after KB931768 - green rectangle instead
of video

After applying KB931768 (and KB930916, both part of the automatic update on
05/09/2007) to WinXP, Windows Media Player embedded in IE7 plays sound but
no video. There is nothing but a green rectangle where the video should be.

Even more peculiar, if you move the IE7 window, the green rectangle is left
behind: it stays in the same spot on the screen, leaving a white rectangular
gap in the IE7 display.

Please do *not* reply "Return your Temporary Internet Files to the default
location," (this seems to have become a cliche reply to any post with
"KB931768" in the subject line). The TIF directory has *never* been moved
from its default location ("C:\documents and
Settings\[userid]\LocalSettings").

I have 3 clients experiencing exactly the same problem on several machines
(all XP Pro or XP Home), and they've been driving me crazy since last
Wednesday trying to walk them through repairing botched attempts to
uninstall/reinstall IE7 or to install Firefox.
