Hello Bozz,
If you read what Hannah wrote you will see that this is not about loosing
custom content. She sees shortcuts where others do see her emoticon (so the
emoticons are still there).
As for the loss of content, for the emoticons I can say that this is caused
by emoticons not being named (if I remember correctly, it's been ages since
I upgraded), so if one makes sure all their custom emoticons have names they
will be migrated fine. I already posted a way to get the "lost" custom
emoticons back some time ago (you must have missed it somehow) but I'll post
it here for you again Bozz:
1) Make a totally independent temporary folder (eg: C:\myemoticons)
2) Copy every .DAT, .DT2, from
"\Documents and Settings\<windows account name>\Application
Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\<ID number>\"
and
"%user profile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\<.NET
passport>\ObjectStore\CustomEmoticons"
to that temporary folder
3) Remove both messenger directories
4) Go to your temporary folder with all the copied files and rename every
single file to .PNG
5) remove duplicates images if you have some (check with an image viewer)
6) start Windows Live Messenger and start adding the icons in the proper way
by going to Tools > Emoticons > Create... > Find Image
7) remove your temporary folder (optional)
